El Salvador’s Ministry of Public Works continues to drive the country’s transformation into a world-class tourism destination, with new infrastructure projects designed to attract both local and international visitors.
Minister of Public Works, Romeo Herrera, highlighted the momentum the sector is experiencing: “We have some of the best waves in the world. Tourism in our country is growing, and that speaks volumes about what we’re doing. The United States government now recommends visiting El Salvador.”
The Ministry has built new, completely free public spaces, such as the modern recreational complex in El Zonte, which includes a skate park, outdoor gym, and showers. Similar projects are planned for other coastal areas to ensure visitors and locals benefit from high-quality facilities.
In Punta Chiquirín, authorities constructed a handmade pier with a storage center, restaurant, and cold storage room, now attracting increasing numbers of tourists. Likewise, the Family Park in San Miguel has been inaugurated as a new regional destination, while open-air cinemas in Nuevo Cuscatlán and on Monseñor Romero Boulevard provide free cultural experiences for families.
To further boost accessibility, the government recently completed the Bypass to Surf City and is expanding the Litoral Highway from two to four lanes between El Obispo Beach and El Zonte. “With the growth our country is experiencing, it is necessary to expand the highway to further boost tourism,” Minister Herrera explained.
These efforts underscore the Bukele administration’s commitment to sustainable tourism, positioning El Salvador as a safe and attractive destination in Central America.
