BCIE and Tourism Ministry Collaborate on Strengthening El Salvador’s Surf City.

Alejandro Zelaya, Director of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) in El Salvador, and Morena Valdez, Minister of Tourism, recently conducted a site visit to inspect the ongoing development of the Surf City project in La Libertad. The initiative aims to strengthen tourism in the region, positioning El Salvador as a key destination for international visitors.

During the inspection, Zelaya and Valdez were joined by Mario Jacobs, the BCIE representative in Guatemala. Together, they reviewed the advancements of Surf City and discussed ongoing and future tourism initiatives. Zelaya emphasized the role of the BCIE in supporting the project, highlighting the bank’s essential contributions to improving infrastructure and facilitating tourism growth.

«Surf City has become a strategic project that is transforming tourism in El Salvador,» said Zelaya. «The BCIE has provided critical financing for key infrastructure, including the construction of the ByPass Camino a Surf City and the expansion of the CA-02W highway, which is now being extended to four lanes over 8.7 km.»

The Surf City project is a major part of El Salvador’s efforts to boost tourism and attract international visitors, with significant improvements to roads and access points. This project is expected to further enhance the country’s growing tourism industry and provide a sustainable economic boost to the region.
