Diaspora Investment in El Salvador Rises 34% to $5.1M

Salvadorans living abroad invested $5.1 million in various projects across the country from June 2024 to May 2025, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ annual report. The data reflects a significant increase in diaspora-driven development compared to the previous year.

The report, published in August, highlights investments in tourism, real estate, and agribusiness, including flagship initiatives such as the Chalatenango Country Club & Resort mountain hotel and the TUNAN TAL free trade zone, developed by Salvadorans residing in Nicaragua.

Authorities emphasized that these projects are not only strengthening El Salvador’s economy but are also generating employment opportunities for skilled workers, aligning with the government’s strategy to encourage sustainable development through foreign investment.

Comparisons with the June 2023–May 2024 period show a notable growth trajectory. While the previous year recorded $3.8 million from seven diaspora companies, the most recent data confirms a 34.2% increase in investment flows, underscoring the growing confidence of Salvadorans abroad in the country’s economic stability.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed that El Salvador’s diaspora continues to play a pivotal role in driving national growth and expanding the scope of international business opportunities.
