El Salvador’s National Navy successfully intercepted 1.4 tons of cocaine in international waters, marking another significant achievement in the country’s fight against drug trafficking. The operation took place approximately 900 nautical miles (1,667 km) southwest of the El Cordoncillo mouth of the Jaltepeque estuary.
President Nayib Bukele confirmed that the seized cocaine, valued at $35 million USD, was found floating in the high seas and was intended to be collected by criminal organizations.
This latest interception brings the total volume of cocaine seized by El Salvador between 2024 and 2025 to 37.2 tons, with an estimated value of $932.4 million USD, reinforcing the country’s commitment to combating organized crime and drug trafficking in the region.
Authorities emphasized that these operations are part of an ongoing strategy to secure national and international waters, prevent illegal drug shipments, and strengthen regional security.
