Senator Ted Cruz Tours El Salvador’s CECOT Prison with Villatoro to Showcase Security Achievements

El Salvador continues to stand out as a global benchmark for security thanks to the successful policies implemented under President Nayib Bukele. The nation’s achievements in restoring peace and combating gang violence are now drawing international recognition, including from leaders in the United States.

This week, Security Minister Gustavo Villatoro welcomed U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, who witnessed firsthand the overwhelming results of the Territorial Control Plan and the ongoing War Against Gangs. As part of his visit, Senator Cruz toured the CECOT Terrorism Confinement Center, the largest maximum-security prison in the Americas, which has become a symbol of El Salvador’s uncompromising stance against organized crime.

“Thanks to the successful security policies implemented by our President, El Salvador is now a benchmark on this issue for other nations,” Villatoro emphasized.

The visit marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral cooperation, as both El Salvador and the United States seek to reinforce strategies against transnational organized crime and terrorism. The country’s security transformation, once considered unattainable, is now serving as a model that other nations are eager to learn from.

With crime rates at historic lows and international recognition growing, El Salvador is positioning itself not only as the safest country in Latin America but also as an emerging global leader in public security strategies
