Recent surveys indicate that a significant majority of Salvadorans support President Nayib Bukele’s reelection, recognizing him as a transformative leader and endorsing the continuation of the nation’s programs and projects.
Academic analyses and multiple public opinion polls conducted before and after elections show broad citizen acceptance for presidential reelection, now enabled indefinitely following constitutional reforms approved by the Legislative Assembly in July 2024.
In October 2022, a survey by the Center for Citizen Studies (CEC) at Francisco Gavidia University (UFG) projected that 77.2% of Salvadorans supported President Bukele’s reelection for the 2024 elections, while 11% opposed it. Similarly, in June 2023, the UFG CEC survey reported 76.5% support, 12.5% opposition, and 11% undecided.
A November 2023 survey conducted by the University of California, University of Puerto Rico (UCA), and the University Institute of Public Opinion (IUDOP), three months before the 2024 elections, showed that nearly 70% of citizens agreed with President Bukele running for the 2024–2029 term. Citizens cited his accomplishments in public security, social transformation, and the desire to prevent a return to previous two-party governance under ARENA and FMLN.
In the most recent June 2025 IUDOP-UCA survey, 70.6% of respondents “strongly agreed” or “agreed” that President Bukele should pursue a third term, while 25.4% disagreed, and 4% were undecided or unaware of the issue.
Political analysts Nelson Flores and Mauricio Rodríguez highlighted that public support stems from President Bukele’s proven leadership and the ongoing social and infrastructure programs. Flores, a specialist in public administration, noted, “The people are tired of false narratives. They need social programs that address their needs, and the president is delivering them. That is why citizens support even indefinite reelection.” Rodríguez, a sociologist, emphasized that Salvadorans back indefinite reelection to ensure continuity of national programs and projects.
These polls underscore widespread citizen confidence in President Bukele’s leadership and reflect the public’s desire for continued stability, transformation, and social development in El Salvador.
