ISTU’s Happy Buses Offer Guided Routes to Top Tourist Spots in El Salvador.

From August 2 to August 6, Salvadoran families will have the opportunity to explore mountains, beaches, and cities across the country through the «Happy Buses» program, launched by the Salvadoran Tourism Institute (ISTU). The initiative, announced by ISTU President Eny Aguiñada, aims to offer safe, affordable, and entertaining travel experiences during the nation’s August holidays.

Each day of the program will feature three different routes, offering access to natural attractions, cultural landmarks, and beach destinations. The routes are designed to accommodate a wide range of preferences, from ecological exploration to archaeological tourism.

On Saturday, August 2, travelers can choose between Cerro Verde for $7, the San Sebastián Tourist Terminal and Apastepeque for $9, or El Espino Beach for $12. Sunday’s options include Ichanmichen for $6, Walter Thilo Deininger Adventure Park and Sunset Park for $7, and Barra de Santiago Beach for $12.

The program continues Monday with trips to San Sebastián Tourist Terminal and Amapulapa for $8, and Atecozol and San Andrés Archaeological Park for $8. On Tuesday, the buses will visit Suchitoto and Apulo for $6, Sihuatehuacán and Tazumal for $7, and the Ruta de las Flores for $9. The final day, Wednesday, August 6, includes trips to Cerro Verde for $7, Agua Fría and Cihuatán Archaeological Park for $8, and a second tour of the Ruta de las Flores for $9.

To participate, travelers must reserve their seats by calling 7517-9196 and arrive before 6:30 a.m. at the departure point located at the Children’s Amusement Park in San Salvador. On-site parking is available for an additional fee of $1.

In addition to the Happy Buses service, ISTU confirmed that all 17 recreational parks will be operational throughout the holiday, with an expected attendance of approximately 169,000 national and international visitors.

This effort reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to expanding domestic tourism, enhancing accessibility, and promoting cultural and natural heritage across El Salvador.
