El Salvador Expands European Travel Access with Iberojet Flights from Madrid.

Spanish airline Iberojet will begin direct commercial and charter flights to El Salvador in February 2026, according to Tourism Minister Morena Valdez. The announcement was made during her appearance on the national morning show Frente a Frente.

“We’re working on expanding airline connections. For example, Iberojet has already announced that it will start direct flights to El Salvador in February 2026. This was confirmed by the airline’s delegate, who spoke during a UN Tourism forum,” said Valdez.

The new route will connect Madrid directly with El Salvador’s main gateway, the San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez International Airport. The minister noted that this move will strengthen the country’s international connectivity and is the result of coordinated efforts with several government institutions.

“We’ve been negotiating this with the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CEPA, and Corsatur. It’s not something that happened overnight. It’s been a joint effort,” she explained.

Valdez emphasized that the goal is to offer Salvadorans more accessible travel options, while also attracting long-term visitors from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

“We’re particularly interested in Europe, because we know that European travelers, as well as those from the Middle East and Asia, tend to stay for two or three weeks. That means a higher economic impact and greater foreign exchange earnings,” she added.

The minister concluded by stating that El Salvador is positioning itself as a regional tourism hub, with plans to offer multi-destination travel packages including Guatemala and Honduras, featuring attractions such as Surf City, the Mayan World, and the Caribbean coastline.
