El Salvador’s National Navy has intercepted a low-profile vessel (LPV) transporting 1.3 tons of cocaine, with an estimated value of $33 million, in a high-impact anti-narcotics operation. The interception took place 600 nautical miles (1,111 kilometers) southwest of Bocana El Cordoncillo, near the Estero de Jaltepeque.
According to President Nayib Bukele, three drug traffickers—two Ecuadorian nationals and one Colombian—were captured during the operation. The seizure forms part of the country’s ongoing efforts to combat transnational organized crime and drug trafficking in regional waters.
With this latest operation, El Salvador has seized a total of 35.8 tons of illegal drugs between 2024 and 2025, dealing an estimated economic blow of over $897.3 million to criminal organizations operating in the region.
President Bukele praised the effectiveness of the country’s security forces and reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining territorial control and regional security.
