El Salvador has played a crucial role in a successful humanitarian effort that led to the release of ten American citizens and numerous political prisoners, thanks to a coordinated agreement between the governments of the United States and President Nayib Bukele’s administration.

U.S. Secretary Marco Rubio publicly thanked President Joe Biden, the U.S. Department of State, and notably President Bukele for their joint efforts in securing the release. “Thanks to @POTUS’s leadership, ten Americans who were detained are on their way to freedom,” Rubio posted, adding special recognition for Bukele’s involvement in finalizing the deal.
