Bitcoin Beach, the birthplace of the world’s first Bitcoin-based circular economy, has launched the Bitcoin Beach Fellowship, a new international program designed to train emerging leaders in digital financial ecosystems. The initiative invites applicants from around the world to experience and participate directly in El Salvador’s pioneering Bitcoin community, located in the coastal town of El Zonte.
This immersive 10-day program will offer selected participants the chance to work alongside the Bitcoin Beach team, engage with local merchants, and observe how a fully functioning BTC-based circular economy operates in real-time.
“Learning by doing is always better than watching from afar,” the organization emphasized in its announcement.

Empowering Global Leaders in Bitcoin Innovation
The Bitcoin Beach Fellowship is aimed at individuals and community leaders from around the world who are building or strengthening Bitcoin-based circular economies in their own regions. The program offers hands-on training in El Zonte, where fellows can witness how Bitcoin is used for everyday transactions in a community without access to traditional financial systems.
This model is particularly valuable for those seeking innovative solutions for financial inclusion, digital empowerment, and decentralized finance. The fellowship welcomes social entrepreneurs, NGO leaders, educators, and Bitcoin advocates committed to bringing these practices back to their own communities and supporting the global growth of grassroots Bitcoin adoption.

A Global Movement Rooted in Local Innovation
The Fellowship builds on momentum from the Bitcoin Circular Economies Summit, held in January 2025 in El Salvador. That summit brought together representatives from 15 Bitcoin circular economies across 10 countries, creating a global dialogue on expanding community-led financial transformation.
Mike Peterson, Director of Bitcoin Beach, highlighted the grassroots origins of the project:
“A lot of people ask, ‘Why El Zonte?’ It’s a small community in a country that few knew. And that’s precisely why it worked. We brought Bitcoin to a place that never had access to traditional financial systems.”
Roman Martínez, a community leader at Bitcoin Beach, echoed the project’s mission of inclusion:
“Bitcoin is an opportunity for people who don’t have opportunities. In El Salvador, we’ve seen that Bitcoin is inclusive—it offers equal opportunities for all.”
Inspiring a New Generation of Bitcoin Leaders
The Bitcoin Beach model has already inspired local and international spin-offs, including Bitcoin Berlin in Usulután, El Salvador, and new digital currency initiatives in Isla Mujeres, Mexico, led by influencer Isabella Santos.
Applications for the Bitcoin Beach Fellowship are now open to all who are passionate about financial innovation and global development. Interested candidates can apply at the following link:
