El Salvador continues to boost development in its eastern region, as demonstrated by the recent arrival of a new cargo vessel at La Unión Port. The RCC Shanghai, a roll-on/roll-off ship, docked today carrying 620 vehicles, including cars, trucks, and excavators—another sign of growing operations at the terminal.
This expansion is part of a broader initiative led by the Salvadoran government to modernize logistics infrastructure through a public-private partnership with Turkish firm Yilport Holding Inc. The collaboration aims to transform La Unión into a key hub for international trade.
“The constant arrival of ships like the RCC Shanghai reflects our commitment to unlocking the economic potential of the eastern region,” said a government spokesperson.
Increased activity at the port not only strengthens El Salvador’s external trade capacity but also stimulates the local economy by generating jobs and attracting investment. It diversifies the nation’s logistic routes, providing faster and more secure options for moving goods.
The government envisions La Unión becoming one of the most efficient ports in Central America. With continued investment, improved infrastructure, and global-level logistics strategies, the port is well on its way to becoming a regional leader.
“We are focused on building sustainable economic growth through modern logistics, digital connectivity, and investment attraction,” the spokesperson added.
