Under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele, the Government of El Salvador is intensifying efforts to develop tourism and its complementary industries, including the high-end fashion sector, aiming to revitalize the economy and create opportunities for future generations.
A significant step forward is the establishment of the International Institute of Haute Couture Fashion Design in El Salvador. This pioneering institution is positioning the country as an emerging benchmark in haute couture, training both Salvadoran and Guatemalan students to enter the global fashion industry.

The institute has also formed strategic partnerships to train local artisans, enabling them to design and produce pieces using advanced international techniques synonymous with prestigious fashion houses. Morena Valdez, head of the Ministry of Tourism (@MITURElSalvador), personally toured the institute’s facilities and highlighted its potential to elevate the country’s fashion industry.
“Tourism and fashion go hand in hand. Success stories like Colombia and cities like Milan serve as powerful examples of what this industry can achieve,” Valdez stated. She applauded the return of talented designers like Pablo Palomeque, who studied abroad and is now contributing to building a lasting legacy in El Salvador’s fashion scene. Valdez encouraged local entrepreneurs and artisans to engage with the institute, where they can showcase and promote their creations, reinforcing El Salvador’s commitment to haute couture.
Astrid Peña, General Director of Haute Couture, emphasized that El Salvador’s creative talent and international expertise position the country prominently on the world stage. Pablo Palomeque, the institute’s Creative Director, brings valuable experience from renowned fashion houses including Louis Vuitton, Valentino, and Burberry, enriching the local fashion community by training new generations of designers.
This initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to integrate tourism with cultural and creative industries, boosting economic growth and international recognition for El Salvador as a hub for haute couture and artisanal craftsmanship.
