El Salvador is making waves in the global fashion scene with the unveiling of “Luz de Trópico,” the newest collection by SMODA, the Salvadoran Fashion Cluster. This innovative line of garments and accessories showcases the rising creativity and craftsmanship of Salvadoran designers and artisans, aiming to spotlight the country as an emerging force in the fashion industry.

The collection was presented in Madrid at a fashion show hosted by the Embassy of El Salvador in Spain. The event, held at the prestigious Casa de América, attracted fashion experts, industry entrepreneurs, and special guests, offering a platform for Salvadoran talent to shine on the European stage.
Created by a team of 23 designers and artisans from various fashion houses, the collection employs a blend of traditional and contemporary techniques, including brass molding, applied crochet, hand weaving, and the use of the backstrap loom — a pre-Hispanic method native to Sonsonate, in western El Salvador.

According to its creators, “Luz de Trópico explores the sensory beauty of the Salvadoran tropical day, told through ten looks that capture different moments and emotions, from sunrise to festive night.” Each piece reflects the local climate, land, and spirit, expressed through vibrant colors, organic forms, and artisanal detailing.
At the heart of the collection is the theme of light, represented through a palette dominated by white. “This color, far from neutral, vibrates intensely through textures, volumes, and silhouettes that evoke inner clarity and the new beginnings each sunrise brings,” the designers explained.

They emphasized that the collection pays tribute to El Salvador’s artisanal heritage and ancestral knowledge, passed down through generations. Many of the garments are complemented by handcrafted jewelry made from natural materials and hand embroidery, celebrating simplicity, organic beauty, and essential values.
Ambassador Joaquín Maza Martelli highlighted the importance of the event: “Supporting our fashion industry is about promoting the talent of our designers and artisans, while also giving them the opportunity to position themselves in the Spanish and European markets.”

With this collection, El Salvador continues to strengthen its presence in the international fashion arena, offering a distinctive blend of cultural richness and contemporary elegance.
