Deputy Secretary Landau Visit Highlights U.S. Support for Private-Sector Investment in El Salvador.

El Salvador continues to reinforce its strong diplomatic relationship with the United States as Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with President Nayib Bukele last night to address shared priorities in security, economic development, and regional cooperation.

Following their meeting at the Presidential Palace, Landau described President Bukele as “a great partner,” and commended El Salvador’s growing leadership role in the region. “We have a great partner in President Bukele and we appreciate El Salvador’s leadership in the region,” stated Landau, who was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador William Duncan.

The U.S. Embassy in El Salvador confirmed that Landau’s visit aims to promote closer collaboration on key issues such as security, development, and private-sector-led economic growth. His visit is part of a broader diplomatic tour that also includes meetings in Mexico and Guatemala, reflecting the Biden administration’s focus on strengthening strategic alliances in Central America.

Landau’s remarks reinforce the positive trajectory of U.S.–El Salvador relations under the leadership of President Bukele. In less than six months, El Salvador has hosted both U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and now Deputy Secretary Landau—highlighting the country’s increasing significance in U.S. regional policy.

In addition to bilateral talks, Landau discussed ways to enhance U.S. investment in El Salvador and the importance of coordinated efforts to curb illegal immigration. His visit underscores Washington’s continued recognition of El Salvador as a key partner in regional stability and economic transformation.
