El Salvador is accelerating efforts to position itself as a regional leader in exports and foreign investment. In a recent high-level meeting, President Nayib Bukele received key proposals from the Exporters Corporation of El Salvador (Coexport), aimed at enhancing competitiveness and boosting economic growth. The session also included members of the country’s economic team, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to strategic collaboration with the private sector.
President Bukele praised El Salvador’s momentum on the international stage, drawing comparisons to dynamic economies like Singapore, China, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. “We are the only country in the Western Hemisphere that can make decisions as fast as Singapore,” the president affirmed.
Silvia Cuéllar, president of Coexport, highlighted the country’s improved security and growing international visibility. “El Salvador is now seen as a new innovation hub in Central America and a natural platform to benefit from nearshoring and global value chains,” she noted.
Among the proposals presented to the Executive Branch were the elimination of the 10% U.S. tariff on Salvadoran products, tax incentives including immediate VAT refunds for exports, and expanded benefits for Free Trade Zones and Inward Processing Warehouses. Additionally, Coexport emphasized the need to modernize logistics infrastructure, including the Port of Acajutla and the Anguiatú-Atlántico highway corridor.
One of the central ideas was the creation of a high-level public-private entity led by the Executive Branch to coordinate export and investment promotion efforts. President Bukele expressed full support for the initiative and pledged continued dialogue with the productive sector.
The meeting also showcased strategic investment initiatives such as a Health City focused on medical service exports, a film production cluster, and real estate developments targeting both domestic and international markets.
As El Salvador continues to build a competitive and innovation-driven economy, this public-private collaboration marks a crucial step toward long-term, sustainable development centered on global market integration.
