El Salvador Achieves 912 Days Without Homicides Under Bukele Administration, Emerges as Regional Leader in Public Security.

El Salvador has recorded a total of 912 days without homicides under President Nayib Bukele’s administration, solidifying its position as a global benchmark in citizen security. According to official data from the National Civil Police (PNC), 114 of those days have occurred in 2025 alone, from January 1 to May 20, with May 20 being the most recent day without a single violent death nationwide.

This achievement forms part of the broader results of the government’s Territorial Control Plan, a cornerstone of Bukele’s public security strategy, which has yielded 798 homicide-free days as part of the ongoing war against gangs.

The PNC reported a notable streak of crime-free dates in May, including the 1st through the 8th and the 10th through the 16th, as well as the 20th. These add to the 25 homicide-free days in April, 22 in March, 26 in February, and 25 in January, demonstrating a consistent trend in improved public safety.

International Recognition: A Model for the Caribbean

El Salvador’s security success is now gaining attention from other nations. Last week, a delegation from the Dominican Republic visited the country to study the “Bukele Model” in-depth. Faride Raful, the Dominican Minister of Interior and Police, highlighted the profound impact the strategy has had on daily life:

“Salvadorans are walking the streets calmly and are able to conduct business without fear. I think that should be valued,” she remarked, describing El Salvador as a regional benchmark for citizen security.

Security Strategy Presented in Russia

The Bukele Model also reached the international legal stage. During the 13th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPILF) in Russia, El Salvador’s Vice President Félix Ulloa presented the dramatic transformation of the nation’s security landscape.

According to Ulloa, El Salvador transitioned from some of the highest homicide rates in the world — up to 90 murders per day in 2015 — to becoming the safest country in the Western Hemisphere. He emphasized that these results have boosted investor confidence, revitalized tourism, and triggered economic growth.

El Salvador’s security achievements continue to draw interest from international leaders and institutions, positioning the country as a case study in successful crime reduction and governance. As the government builds upon its security model, the world watches closely to understand how one of Latin America’s formerly most violent nations became a symbol of peace and order in the region.
