El Salvador proudly took part in the International Dance Festival held in Stockholm, Sweden, thanks to coordination by the Salvadoran diplomatic mission accredited in the country. The event, traditionally celebrated on April 29 in honor of Jean-Georges Noverre—the father of modern ballet—was held this year on April 26 at “Kungsträdgården” (King’s Park), with 18 countries showcasing their culture and artistry.

The festival, established in 1982 by the International Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) with support from UNESCO, is a yearly celebration of the artistic and cultural diversity of the city. This edition featured performances of contemporary dance, flamenco, urban styles, folklore, and ballet, all brought to life by local and international artists, alongside live music concerts.

El Salvador was represented by the talented Grupo de Danza El Salvador, with standout performances by dancers Abril and Katya Borgards. Their vibrant interpretation of Salvadoran traditions captivated the audience through color, rhythm, and cultural pride.

The event also served as a platform to promote the country’s image abroad. A Salvadoran coffee stand attracted attention, offering samples of the nation’s rich flavors. Entrepreneur Mauricio Forhagen, from El Rinconcito Azul, delighted visitors with typical dishes such as pupusas, pan con pollo, yuca frita, pollo guisado, and budín.

Ambassador Patricia Godínez of El Salvador in Sweden was also present at the celebration, supporting the artists and promoting Salvadoran culture. “It is an honor to showcase our traditions on an international stage and share the warmth of our people with the world,” she said.
