The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) of El Salvador officially reopened vehicular access on the Los Chorros section of the Pan-American Highway starting at 2:00 a.m. this Monday. The road had been temporarily closed after a landslide early Saturday morning blocked the crucial transit route.

Following the incident, MOP crews swiftly deployed technical equipment and machinery to remove soil and debris from the affected area. Traffic officers from the National Civil Police (PNC) also coordinated efforts by redirecting motorists to alternate routes to maintain traffic flow and ensure public safety.
Once debris removal was completed, MOP teams conducted thorough inspections to mitigate risks and guarantee the stability of the slopes. Specialized machinery, mechanical shovels, and bulldozers were used to remove weight from the crown of the slope, significantly reducing pressure and the possibility of further landslides.
The restoration efforts continued until late Sunday night, enabling motorists to safely resume circulation early this morning with the support of PNC traffic officers.
The Ministry of Public Works reiterated its commitment to maintaining infrastructure safety across the country and emphasized ongoing monitoring of the Los Chorros section to ensure uninterrupted transit for the public.
