The call center and BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) sector has become a key driver of employment in El Salvador. In 2024 alone, 12,000 new jobs were created, according to Aída Muñoz, Executive Director of AmCham El Salvador.
“We generated 12,000 new jobs in 2024 in the call center and BPO sector. We hope to match or surpass that number this year,” said Muñoz, noting the sector’s partnership with the Ministry of Economy on English-language training.

AmCham’s call center committee includes 10 companies behind these jobs, but Muñoz estimates around 90 centers operate nationwide, showing strong potential for growth and foreign investment.
“We’re seeing new U.S. investments and legislation that support economic development,” she added, citing projects like the Pacific Airport, Surf City 2, and a submarine cable as key incentives.
She also highlighted the rise in tourism, with “26% of visitors coming from the United States.”
On trade, Muñoz expressed optimism about resolving the 10% tariffs imposed by the U.S. in April.
“I’m sure President Bukele and President Trump are already working on a solution. Their alignment gives us hope,” she said, adding that “relations look positive and collaborative.”
