High Security in El Salvador Enables Safe Tourism During 2025 Summer Season.

Yesterday afternoon, the Minister of National Defense, René Francis Merino Monroy, together with officials from the National Civil Protection Commission (@PROCIVILSV), presented the final report on emergencies attended to during El Salvador’s #SummerPlan 2025. The report underscores the country’s strengthened public safety as a key factor enabling citizens and visitors to enjoy vacation activities with peace of mind.

The Minister highlighted that El Salvador’s high level of security continues to serve as a foundation for tourism and social tranquility. As part of preventive efforts, the National Navy, acting in its capacity as Maritime Authority, implemented security measures on beaches by preventing intoxicated individuals from entering the water—actions that significantly reduced the risk of aquatic incidents.

In addition, naval vessels were deployed to provide safety support on lakes and coastal areas. The Minister noted that aerial units were also mobilized to assist in combating seasonal wildfires, demonstrating a coordinated inter-agency response to environmental and public safety threats.

Minister Merino Monroy emphasized that El Salvador is steadily becoming a benchmark for security in Central America, reinforcing its reputation as an increasingly attractive destination for international tourism.

Since President Nayib Bukele took office on June 1, 2019, the country has accumulated 889 days with zero homicides, including 91 days in 2025 alone. Of the 21 homicide cases reported this year, 98% have been resolved, representing a significant reduction in the impunity rate.

The Minister also shared that during security patrols at tourist destinations, both Salvadoran citizens and foreign visitors expressed strong support and appreciation for the safety improvements.

He concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the Armed Forces (@FUERZARMADASV) to continue working toward a freer, safer, and more peaceful El Salvador.
