El Salvador’s East Coast, Surf City 2, Is the New Surf Destination to Watch in Central America.

Salvadoran and foreign tourists recently took advantage of the holiday season to explore the first completed segments of Surf City 2, a coastal route that cuts across the departments of Usulután, San Miguel, and La Unión.

The initiative, part of President Nayib Bukele’s broader tourism strategy, includes finished and ongoing infrastructure projects designed to offer travelers new vacation alternatives. Among the completed works are the Punta Mango highway and several secondary roads leading to popular beach destinations such as El Cuco, El Icacal, Playa Blanca, and El Jagüey.

Travelers were particularly drawn to the newly built scenic viewpoints, offering breathtaking coastal vistas that were once difficult, if not impossible, to access. “These landscapes were hidden treasures—now anyone can enjoy them,” said a local vendor near one of the miradores.

New control stations have also been established along the beaches to enhance safety and visitor experience. Many holiday-goers followed the new Punta Mango route, making stops at each viewpoint and enjoying the road’s direct access to beaches like Las Flores, El Toro, La Ventana, El Floral, El Bonjo, and El Cuco.

The development of Surf City 2 is expected to further boost tourism in the eastern part of the country, turning once-remote shores into vibrant, accessible destinations.
