The Court of Accounts of the Republic (CCR) announced yesterday the implementation of a nationwide oversight plan for the use of government vehicles during the upcoming Easter holiday period, which will begin on Sunday, April 13, and conclude on Monday, April 21.
“The purpose of this plan is to promote efficient management of the state vehicle fleet, avoiding unnecessary wear and reducing operational costs,” the Court stated in an official release.
As the state’s auditing institution, the CCR emphasized its duty to ensure that public resources are used exclusively for their intended purposes. “It is our responsibility to ensure these public assets are employed to generate value and benefit for the citizens,” the statement continued.
The fiscalization plan includes a range of oversight measures. These encompass on-site inspections at key locations across the country, verification of official missions, assessment of the purpose behind such missions, and thorough checks on license plates, official markings, and vehicle documentation.
The CCR will carry out this initiative in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic and the Traffic Division of the National Civil Police, ensuring a joint effort to monitor the correct use of national vehicles during the holiday.
“The Court of Accounts reminds all institutions under its supervision that the use of national vehicles must be duly justified, documented, and authorized,” the institution warned.
The oversight body also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, the prevention of corruption, and the proper management of state resources.
In conclusion, the CCR called on heads of public institutions and municipalities to take all necessary measures to safeguard and properly manage government vehicles throughout the Semana Santa holiday period.
