Ricardo Salazar, president of El Salvador’s Consumer Protection Agency, announced this Wednesday that the institution is ready to protect both local and foreign vacationers during Holy Week. Inspections will focus on food safety, accurate advertising, and fair pricing—especially for credit card payments.

So far in 2025, the agency has recovered $11.8 million for 4,780 consumers. In 2024, the total reached $40.2 million.
“We’re prepared to serve not only locals but also visitors from abroad during this important holiday,” said Salazar.
Inspectors will check for expired products in stores and restaurants, and review promotions to ensure they meet legal standards.
“Expired goods pose health risks. We will remove them from circulation,” Salazar added.
The public can report violations via WhatsApp at 7844-1482 by sending a photo and location of the product or store. Salazar also reminded that card payments must not incur extra fees.
The agency will carry out nationwide inspections to safeguard consumer rights throughout the holiday period.
