In preparation for the upcoming Holy Week holiday, the Government of El Salvador has announced a comprehensive road safety plan that will see the deployment of more than 15,000 personnel across the country.

The initiative, led by the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), in coordination with the Vice Ministry of Transport (@VMTElSalvador), the National Civil Police (@PNCSV), and the Ministry of the Interior (@GobernacionSV), aims to reduce traffic accidents and ensure safe travel for all Salvadorans.

During a press briefing, Minister of Public Works Romeo Rodríguez (@RomeoHerrera1) emphasized the campaign’s focus on accident prevention. “During this Easter holiday, we want to focus on raising awareness among the Salvadoran population about the issue of accidents. The main cause of accidents is distracted driving,” he stated.
The special operation includes the installation of road safety checkpoints and traffic flow management systems along major highways throughout the country. “We will be working on various road safety devices across the country, located on several highways to expedite vehicle traffic,” Rodríguez added.

As part of the safety measures, a free tow truck service will be available nationwide until April 20. Citizens can access this assistance by calling 2510-0199 and requesting support through the “#MOPTeAsiste” initiative.
Authorities encourage all travelers to exercise caution, remain alert behind the wheel, and respect traffic regulations to ensure a safe and peaceful Holy Week.
