The United States Department of State has officially designated El Salvador as a Level 1 travel destination, the highest and safest classification for international travel issued by the U.S. government.
This recognition places El Salvador among the safest countries in the world for travelers, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s ongoing efforts to improve public safety and tourism infrastructure.
«El Salvador has just received the U.S. State Department’s Gold Star for Travel: Level 1: Safest. Level 1: Safest,» President Nayib Bukele shared on social media following the announcement.

The Level 1 advisory encourages travelers to exercise normal precautions and reflects a dramatic transformation in the country’s security landscape. El Salvador’s classification is now on par with traditionally safe destinations and is expected to boost international tourism and foreign investment.
The U.S. State Department regularly updates travel advisories to inform its citizens of safety conditions around the world. A Level 1 rating is its most favorable designation.
