Volaris El Salvador has announced that it will relocate its current operations from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, starting July 2 of this year.

With this change, the national airline will operate a new route from El Salvador with three weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

According to Ronny Rodríguez, General Manager of Volaris El Salvador, the flight will depart from El Salvador International Airport at 10:21 p.m., while flights from Newark will take off at 6:30 a.m.

The executive explained that this new flight is part of the airline’s strategy to offer more services to its customers living in the United States, particularly by providing lower fares to Salvadorans and Central Americans. The cost per segment will be $99.

“We try to bring our operations to the airports closest to the Salvadoran community, just like we did in Oakland, Ontario, Houston, and all these other airports where we have moved. What we are doing in Newark, in this case, is that this airport is also a more affordable option,” he stated.

Volaris El Salvador’s new airport destination is located just 24 kilometers from New York and is situated between the cities of Newark and Elizabeth in northern New Jersey. It is considered the main airport serving the New York metropolitan area and one of the largest in the United States.

According to data from the United States Census Bureau, approximately 376,000 Central Americans resided in New Jersey, Jersey City, Newark, and New York in 2021.

Currently, the airline operates regular flights to six U.S. cities: New York, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Houston, Oakland, and Miami.
