The U.S.-El Salvador Agreement is About Crime, Not Immigration.

Teacher and writer Fernando Francisco Góchez emphasized that the recent transfer of members of the Tren de Aragua and MS-13 from the U.S. to El Salvador is a strong message against crime, but not an attack on innocent migrants. Speaking on Monday, Góchez highlighted the significance of the U.S.-El Salvador cooperation in combating transnational criminal organizations that have caused significant harm across Latin America.

Góchez clarified that the measures being taken are directed at individuals with confirmed criminal records, not migrants. «The message is for people who have committed crimes, not for migrants. The U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security stated they will capture and deport criminals; it’s a strong message,» he affirmed.

He also emphasized the importance of the growing alliance between El Salvador and the United States, which he views as a crucial strategy for both nations’ security interests.

In a related announcement, President Nayib Bukele confirmed the transfer of 17 criminals linked to the Tren de Aragua and MS-13, all of whom have been involved in serious crimes such as homicide, rape, and organized crime. «This operation is another step in the fight against terrorism and organized crime,» President Bukele declared.

The move signifies a decisive step in the ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the region and protect the safety of citizens.
