Holy Week Travel: El Salvador and Guatemala Aim for a Smoother Border Experience.

Authorities from El Salvador and Guatemala have been actively coordinating efforts to enhance the flow of tourists and commercial goods between both countries, particularly as the peak travel season approaches. With Holy Week just around the corner, officials are prioritizing measures to streamline border crossings and improve overall mobility.

“The purpose of this initiative is to reinforce communication and coordination channels between our nations, focusing on making border crossings for people and goods more efficient. This is a key element of our integration, and we are committed to implementing practical and sustainable solutions that meet current needs, ensuring a more dynamic, secure, and prosperous border experience,” stated the Salvadoran Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is leading these discussions alongside her Guatemalan counterpart, Mónica Bolaños.

As part of this commitment, both countries are working to facilitate tourist transit, strengthen security within their territories, and promote key destinations and activities for travelers. Additionally, ongoing efforts include the exchange of best practices to improve efficiency at border checkpoints, especially during high-traffic periods.

Customs operations have also been a focal point, with authorities actively exploring ways to optimize infrastructure and logistics at control points. These discussions aim to ensure a smoother and more efficient experience for travelers and businesses alike.

Key representatives from both nations are involved in these efforts. On behalf of El Salvador, Minister of Tourism Morena Valdez, Director General of Migration and Foreign Affairs Ricardo Cucalón, and Director General of Customs Benjamín Mayorga are playing a crucial role. Meanwhile, Guatemala is represented by Harris Whitbeck, Director General of the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism; Danilo Rivera, Director General of the Guatemalan Migration Institute; and Edwin Curtidor, Director of Customs at the Superintendency of Tax Administration.

With these measures actively being put into motion, El Salvador and Guatemala continue to strengthen their collaboration, ensuring a seamless experience for tourists and businesses while reinforcing their long-standing ties as key trade and travel partners.
