El Salvador Enables Express Passport Renewal at International Airport.

The General Directorate of Migration and Foreign Affairs (DGME) of El Salvador has announced the launch of an express service window at the country’s main airport, allowing Salvadorans to renew their passports immediately without needing to visit a migration office.

The new service is available at El Salvador International Airport “San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez” and requires only a valid and well-preserved Unique Identity Document (DUI). The renewal process costs $25, the same as in DGME offices, and is available to individuals aged 18 and older.

For expired passport renewals, no new photograph is required, as the most recent image from either the DUI or the previous passport will be used. To assist travelers with any questions, DGME has provided the contact number 2535-6212.

“At Migration El Salvador, we continue to innovate so that no setback affects your trip,” the institution stated on Monday.

This initiative follows the December 2023 launch of the “Online Passport” platform, which allows Salvadoran residents to renew their passports remotely. At that time, Migration Director Ricardo Cucalón emphasized that the system would benefit users by enabling them to update their passports “easily and from their homes.”

According to DGME estimates, at least 300 passport issuance and renewal processes were completed daily in 2023. The introduction of the express service comes just weeks before the Easter holiday season, observed by Catholic devotees from April 14 to April 20, 2025.
