El Salvador Showcases Cinematic Talent at the Ibero-American Film Week in Vienna.

As part of its Public Diplomacy efforts, the Embassy of El Salvador in Austria, in collaboration with the Instituto Cervantes of Vienna, presented the film El Suspiro del Silencio during the closing of the 2025 Ibero-American Film Week.

The film tells the story of Josefina Moreno, a young Salvadoran woman with an exceptional talent for coffee tasting. Directed, produced, and written by Salvadoran filmmaker Alfonso Quijada, El Suspiro del Silencio highlights the country’s deep-rooted coffee culture while showcasing the director’s extensive experience in the international film industry. Quijada, a seasoned filmmaker with over 34 years in the field, has been recognized for his work on multiple award-winning productions worldwide.

During the event, El Salvador’s ambassador to Austria, Julia Villatoro, emphasized the cultural and artistic richness of the country, particularly its national film productions, which serve as a window into its natural beauty and identity.

“It is an honor for El Salvador to be part of this initiative that highlights the cinematic wealth of our region and allows us to share our stories with the world. For my country, it is a pleasure to showcase our talent, our history, and our identity, and what better place to do so than in our own language at the Instituto Cervantes,” said the ambassador.

She also reaffirmed the country’s commitment to promoting Salvadoran art and culture through participation in international events that help bring its traditions and artistic talent to a global audience.

Following the screening, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy traditional Salvadoran cuisine, including pupusas, fried yuca, and quesadilla, as well as sample Salvadoran coffee and rum. The event not only highlighted the country’s cinematic achievements but also offered a taste of its rich gastronomic heritage.
