New Lifeguard Towers to Strengthen Beach Safety in El Salvador.

The Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) has announced that the construction of lifeguard towers on various beaches in the eastern zone of El Salvador is progressing as planned and is expected to be inaugurated in April. This initiative is part of broader tourism development projects aimed at enhancing visitor safety and infrastructure.

«Within the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) program, we are implementing infrastructure projects such as lifeguard towers, which we hope to inaugurate in April, along with ecological boardwalks. We are also working on environmental sustainability projects, such as wastewater treatment, which are often less visible but equally important,» stated Minister of Tourism Morena Valdez.

The project includes two lifeguard towers on El Cuco Beach in Chirilagua, San Miguel Centro; two on El Tamarindo Beach in Conchagua, La Unión Sur; and one on El Esterón Beach in Intipucá, La Unión Sur. Additionally, a tourism corridor and a bike path are being developed on El Cuco Beach. These efforts fall under the Program to Support the Recovery and Expansion of the Tourism Sector in El Salvador, in collaboration with the IDB.

«We are supervising this infrastructure project in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior and the General Directorate of Civil Protection to ensure its proper implementation,» Valdez added. Environmental conservation efforts, such as mangrove protection, are also being carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN).

The initiative includes active participation from local community members, who will directly benefit from the tourism development in the region. Additionally, Mitur is investing in workforce training programs, offering instruction in English, customer service, and other essential skills to enhance the country’s tourism sector.
