El Salvador to Host Copa Hernán “Chuvalo” Cubías Boxing Tournament at Historic Downtown San Salvador.

The Historic Downtown of San Salvador continues to solidify its position as a top destination for both local and international tourists, as well as a hub for sports enthusiasts. This weekend, the Plaza Gerardo Barrios will transform into the stage for the Copa Hernán “Chuvalo” Cubías boxing tournament, taking place on March 8 and 9.

The event is organized by the Salvadoran Boxing Federation (Fesalbox), the Historic Downtown Authority, and the National Sports Institute of El Salvador (INDES), with free entry for all spectators. More than 50 boxing athletes will compete, earning points toward the national ranking.

Adriana Larín, Director General of the Historic Downtown Authority, highlighted the significance of the event:

“The Historic Downtown of San Salvador, as the second most visited destination in the country, is now becoming a stage for major global events, including non-conventional sports.”

Larín also emphasized the opportunity this tournament provides for young athletes, especially female boxers:

“There aren’t many female role models in this discipline, making this a great chance for the new generations to get involved.”

The technical manager of Fesalbox, Jorge Noriega, stressed the importance of these events in promoting boxing and attracting large audiences.

The matches will be broadcast live on Aloud Sports, starting at 4:00 p.m. on both days. The Salvadoran government, under President Nayib Bukele, continues its efforts to strengthen sports and public spaces, turning the Historic Downtown into a key venue for cultural and athletic events throughout the year.
