Today, El Salvador hosted the International Conference against the Illicit Use of Synthetic Drugs, with Emphasis on Fentanyl Abuse: The Global Threat, reaffirming its commitment to tackling the global drug crisis.
The event was led by the Minister of Security, Gustavo Villatoro (@Vi11atoro), alongside Attorney General Rodolfo Delgado (@FiscalGeneralSV) and Minister of Defense René Merino Monroy (@merino_monroy). Representatives from Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Argentina, and Colombia participated in discussions focused on strengthening international cooperation to combat fentanyl abuse and synthetic drug trafficking.

Minister Villatoro highlighted El Salvador’s transformation under President Nayib Bukele’s leadership, stating that the country has gone from being the most dangerous in the world to the safest in the Western Hemisphere. He also emphasized the government’s proactive measures, explaining, “Two years ago, together with @aduanas_SV, we began verifying fentanyl imports to audit importers and hospitals, ensuring the country takes full responsibility in combating this scourge.”
El Salvador continues to position itself as a regional leader in security and anti-drug initiatives, reinforcing its commitment to global efforts against synthetic drug abuse.
