El Salvador International Airport Continues Modernization with Major Expansion.

The expansion of the check-in area at El Salvador International Airport is 98% complete and is expected to be fully operational by the Easter holidays, according to Federico Anliker, president of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA). The $12 million project is part of ongoing efforts to enhance airport infrastructure in response to growing passenger demand.

Anliker emphasized that the expansion aims to improve service quality for both airlines and travelers. «We are almost 98% complete with the work, with only final details remaining. I estimate that we could begin using it by Easter. More expansions are coming for the airport,» he stated during a television interview.

The newly expanded check-in area will feature 40 additional service points, bringing the total to 122. This will help streamline passenger flow and prevent overcrowding by increasing the number of available airline counters and offices. The project covers approximately 7,160 square meters of new construction.

In addition to the check-in area, CEPA is planning further improvements, including the installation of new baggage belts to meet international standards and accommodate rising demand. «We are currently working on the designs and will expand the baggage handling system to improve efficiency,» Anliker explained.

Future development plans for the airport also include the continued expansion of the passenger terminal. «We previously opened five new halls, but we will now focus on extending the terminal toward the east,» Anliker added.

Moreover, a new parking facility is in the works to address increasing demand. «We are conducting soil studies, and the project will be located in front of the passenger departure area,» he confirmed.

These upgrades reflect El Salvador’s commitment to modernizing its airport infrastructure, ensuring a more comfortable and efficient experience for travelers while supporting the nation’s growing aviation sector.
