The administration of President Nayib Bukele has marked a total of 845 days with zero homicides during his 68 months in office, according to official data released by the Security Cabinet. Authorities attribute this achievement to security measures such as the Territorial Control Plan and the ongoing state of exception.
According to police statistics, between March 27, 2022, and February 25, 2025, El Salvador recorded 732 homicide-free days under the state of exception. This extraordinary measure has enabled security forces to arrest 87,000 gang members and their collaborators, significantly reducing violent crime in the country.
The most recent homicide-free day was recorded on Tuesday, February 25, marking the 22nd such day in the month and the 48th of the year. The National Civil Police reported zero homicides on February 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, and 25.
Zero Impunity in Homicides for 2025
Minister of Security Gustavo Villatoro confirmed that between January 1 and February 24 of this year, El Salvador maintained a zero-impunity rate for homicides. “In the eight homicides we have had so far this year, impunity is zero,” Villatoro stated, emphasizing that all perpetrators are already in custody and facing legal proceedings.
He highlighted that these results stem from the coordinated efforts of the expanded Security Cabinet, led by President Bukele. “Security is not about celebration; evil always exists, and we must constantly analyze and act to maintain these figures,” he said.
Villatoro also reported that 2024 ended with a 98.6% homicide resolution rate. “Of the 114 homicides last year, only two remain unresolved; the remaining 112 cases have their perpetrators already subjected to judicial proceedings,” he noted.
The Bukele administration continues to implement its aggressive security strategies, which have positioned El Salvador as a regional leader in crime reduction.
