In a significant move to boost economic ties, the Corporation of Exporters of El Salvador (Coexport) and the Board of Foreign Economic Relations of Turkey (DEIK) have agreed to deepen their commercial relations. The agreement was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding during the Turkish Business Mission in El Salvador this Thursday.
The alliance, supported by the Turkish Embassy in El Salvador, aims to increase trade between the two nations. According to DEIK’s Vice President, Ali Galip Ilter, this mission marks Turkey’s first-ever trade mission to El Salvador, bringing together a delegation of ten Turkish businessmen from various sectors. The mission has already identified several products with high potential for introduction into the Turkish market, with a particular focus on expanding coffee imports from El Salvador.
Silvia Cuéllar, president of Coexport, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, “We are excited about this direct cooperation, where we can establish links between Turkey’s demand and our exportable offer, driving the growth of our exporters in a market with great potential.”
Coexport’s strategy includes market diversification, and Cuéllar pointed out that while Turkey is a relatively new market for El Salvador, there is strong potential for the introduction of Salvadoran goods.
Currently, El Salvador exports approximately $5 million in goods to Turkey, including paper, footwear, coffee, and certain waste products, while imports from Turkey total around $17 million annually.
This new partnership opens the door for further trade expansion and economic growth between the two countries.
