El Salvador and Japan reaffirmed their strong bond of cooperation during the celebration of Japan’s National Day, which also marked the 90th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The event was attended by the Vice President of the Republic of El Salvador, Mr. Félix Ulloa Jr., and the Ambassador of Japan to El Salvador, Mr. Yoshitaka Hoshino.
The ceremony highlighted the longstanding friendship between El Salvador and Japan, officially established on February 15, 1935. Over the decades, both countries have cultivated a relationship rooted in mutual respect, cooperation, and joint development. This partnership is evident in key initiatives supporting education, infrastructure, and economic growth, including the inauguration of the second phase of the Gerardo Barrios Bypass and the 2035 Regional Mobility and Logistics Master Plan.
Ambassador Hoshino emphasized that through the “Year of Friendship,” Japan seeks to strengthen dialogue and deepen cooperation with El Salvador and other members of the Central American Integration System (SICA). Notably, El Salvador was the first Latin American country to receive volunteers from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), who continue to contribute to the nation’s development across various sectors.
The event concluded with a showcase of Japanese culture, underscoring the commitment of both nations to further strengthen their ties of friendship and collaboration. Dignitaries in attendance included members of the diplomatic corps, Vice President of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador, Mrs. Suecy Callejas, and other representatives from President Nayib Bukele’s government.
