Public Transport Upgrade: Metrocable to Cross National University.

El Salvador is advancing its public transportation plans with the construction of a metrocable system in the San Salvador Metropolitan Area (AMSS). Three towers for the project are set to be built on the University of El Salvador (UES) campus.

UES Rector Juan Rosa Quintanilla confirmed that the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT) requested approval from the university’s Higher University Council (CSU) to install the towers. The route will pass through several faculties, including Engineering, Agronomic Sciences, Chemistry, and Dentistry.

The metrocable aims to connect the northern and southeastern parts of the campus, improving mobility for students and the public. “While alternatives were discussed, there seems to be no other viable option,” Quintanilla said.

The project is part of the government’s broader effort to modernize public transport, following studies initiated in 2022 and proposals for sustainable transit solutions, including a monorail and aerial cable car systems.
