San Salvador’s El Salvador International Airport, also known as San Óscar Arnulfo Romero and Galdámez Airport, hit a record 5.3 million passengers in 2024, marking a 16.3% increase compared to 2023, according to the Autonomous Port Executive Commission (CEPA). This milestone solidifies its position as the third busiest airport in Central America, following San José (SJO) and Panama City/Tocumen (PTY).
Of the total passengers, 41.3% were arrivals, 39.3% departures, and 18.6% transit or connecting travelers, highlighting the airport’s role as a regional hub. Twelve airlines operate flights to 25 international destinations, including cities in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Latin America. Key carriers like Avianca and Volaris continue to enhance connectivity through the Salvadoran capital.
Additionally, the airport was recognized by Cirium as the fourth most punctual small airport globally in 2024, achieving an 89.33% on-time performance rate. Air cargo operations also saw a 27% growth, with 35.9 million kilograms of goods exported.
This growth cements San Salvador’s role as a key player in regional aviation and a strategic connection point for travelers and commerce alike.
