El Salvador is set to launch its first-ever comprehensive care unit for victims of road accidents, aimed at providing psychological, legal, and social support to those affected. The initiative, spearheaded by the Fund for the Care of Victims of Traffic Accidents (Fonat), will offer specialized assistance to both injured individuals and the families of the deceased, ensuring they receive the care and information they need to defend their rights.

Paola Bardi, Director of Fonat, shared that the new unit is currently in its start-up phase. «At Fonat, we are in the process of launching our comprehensive care unit for victims, with a psychological, legal, and social approach,» she explained. This unit will focus on delivering timely and efficient support, addressing the immediate needs of victims and guiding them through the recovery process with a dedicated team of professionals.

The unit’s services will not only provide psychosocial care but also offer vital information regarding the defense of victims’ rights. Fonat aims to ensure that those affected by road accidents are supported at every stage, from the moment of the incident through their recovery.

Fonat has been enhancing its services for accident victims since 2019 through its Comprehensive Rehabilitation Program. This initiative provides prosthetics and orthotics to individuals who have lost body parts, offers free physical therapy to aid mobility, and supports users throughout their rehabilitation. The program also assists in obtaining disability certifications for work or pension purposes and ensures timely financial compensation for victims.

In addition, Fonat launched a job bank in 2024 to connect injured individuals with employment opportunities, further facilitating their reintegration into society and the workforce.
