El Salvador’s Private Sector Boosts Public Transport with $2.5 Million Investment.

Private sector investment continues to drive progress in El Salvador, with the introduction of a new fleet of buses and minibuses valued at $2.5 million. This investment will enhance the country’s urban and interdepartmental transportation services, benefiting areas including San Salvador Este, San Miguel, Cuscatlán, La Libertad, and Chalatenango.

Nelson Reyes, Head of the Vice Ministry of Transportation, explained that the 21 new units, consisting of 14 minibuses and 7 buses, reflect the positive business climate in El Salvador, which has been bolstered by improved security and increased demand for public transport services. “These new units are a clear demonstration of the effort of the private sector and the favorable conditions that have been created,” Reyes noted.

The new buses feature modern amenities such as air conditioning and wheelchair ramps, emphasizing the importance of inclusion in the public transport system. Minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez, highlighted that these additions are crucial for improving the quality of transport in the country, as public transportation is used by 70% of Salvadorans. The new fleet will serve routes to key destinations, including the Port of La Libertad, Mejicanos, Ilopango, and San Miguel.

Entrepreneur Abel Reina also underscored the role of security in enabling such investments. He pointed out that the safe environment in the country has played a key role in fostering business growth and improving services for the population.

This $2.5 million investment reflects the private sector’s continued commitment to upgrading the public transport system and contributing to the development of El Salvador.
