El Salvador Expands Support for TPS Beneficiaries with Free Re-registration Process.

Ambassador Milena Mayorga has officially announced the start of the free Temporary Protected Status (TPS) re-registration process for Salvadorans in the United States. The announcement comes following the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) decision to extend TPS for Salvadorans for an additional 18 months, from March 10, 2025, to September 9, 2026.

The re-registration process will begin on January 17, and the forms can be completed free of charge at the 28 Salvadoran consulates and the embassy across the U.S. Ambassador Mayorga emphasized the Salvadoran government’s commitment to supporting its citizens living in the U.S. by offering this assistance. «President Nayib Bukele instructed us that the embassy and consulates will fill out the TPS re-registration forms for free,» Mayorga said. Salvadorans will only need to bring the necessary money orders or checks to cover the processing fees.

The ambassador made an urgent appeal to the 234,000 eligible TPS beneficiaries, urging those who have not yet re-registered to take immediate action. “We investigated how many had registered in 2024, and less than 100,000 had not done so,” Mayorga noted. “My call is for them to come forward and do it.”

TPS was initially granted to Salvadorans in 2001 following devastating earthquakes in the country, and it has since been renewed several times, allowing thousands of Salvadorans to live and work legally in the U.S.

For more details on the re-registration process, eligible individuals can consult the official link on the Federal Register or contact the Salvadoran government at 7070-1071 or call the virtual consulate at 1-888-301-1130.
