El Salvador Opens Whale Watching Season with Authorized Guides for Humpback Sightings.

The Government of El Salvador has authorized tourist guides to lead humpback whale sightings in the protected «Los Cobanos Complex,» a popular natural area known for attracting these majestic creatures during their annual migration.

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) made the announcement via the social media platform X, inviting tourists to experience the awe-inspiring sight of humpback whales in Salvadoran waters. «Discover the magic of the ocean with the authorized service providers for this season. Experience an unforgettable encounter, full of emotion, respect, and connection with marine ecosystems,» the Ministry posted.

Humpback whale sightings are a seasonal event in El Salvador, typically occurring from November to March. During this time, many tourists embark on trips to view the whales as they migrate from the northern hemisphere to the tropics, where the warm waters are ideal for breeding and reproduction.

Minister of the Environment Fernando López emphasized the importance of responsible tourism in preserving the whales’ natural habitat. «It is important to enjoy this experience responsibly, respecting the instructions of authorized guides, to protect their habitat and preserve the balance of the marine ecosystem,» López stated.

To ensure a safe and educational experience, the Ministry of the Environment has provided contact information for authorized guides who are trained to lead tours and provide valuable insights into the behavior and conservation of humpback whales.

This initiative not only supports sustainable tourism but also highlights El Salvador’s rich biodiversity and commitment to environmental protection.
