El Salvador to Launch Photo-Fine System on January 9.

El Salvador’s new photo-fine system will officially begin on Thursday, January 9, 2025, starting at 00:00 hours. This system, designed to improve road safety, will be implemented in high-risk areas with frequent traffic accidents. The first locations to see the activation of the photo-fine system include:

Romeo Rodríguez Herrera, the Minister of Public Works and Transport (MOPT), explained that the areas have been clearly marked, and the system will gradually expand to other parts of the country. Over the past weekend, tests were conducted, revealing that approximately 1,200 drivers in each direction were violating traffic laws.

The new system will monitor vehicle speed, seatbelt use, and pedestrian crossing violations, automatically issuing fines for infractions. Cameras will capture the vehicle’s license plate number, which will be cross-checked against a monitoring center to verify the details. Drivers will receive notifications of fines via mail or email.

The government has assured the public that drivers will be informed in advance as the system expands, aiming to reduce accidents and promote safer driving across the nation.
