El Salvador Achieves Record 98.2% Homicide Resolution Rate in 2024.

In a joint effort starting in 2022, the Attorney General’s Office of El Salvador, alongside the Ministry of Justice and Security, the National Civil Police (PNC), the Institute of Legal Medicine, and other institutions, has been leading technical evaluations of registered deaths in the country. This collaborative effort provides the public with accurate and scientifically-backed data on the country’s homicide rates, with a focus on thorough investigations by both the PNC and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).

Attorney General Rodolfo Delgado emphasized the historical reduction in homicides, attributing this achievement to the effective measures implemented by the Expanded Security Cabinet. In 2024, El Salvador recorded just 114 homicides, achieving an impressive resolution rate of 98.2%.

Moreover, the country’s homicide rate per 100,000 inhabitants dropped to 1.9, marking one of the lowest levels in the nation’s history. This improvement in public safety is the result of coordinated efforts by the FGR, the Ministry of Defense, the PNC, and the government’s Security Cabinet.

During the successful implementation of the State of Emergency, Salvadorans have enjoyed 684 days without a homicide. The nation has also witnessed significant reductions in other crimes, including:

• A 58.02% decrease in sexual assaults

• A 48.50% reduction in extortion cases

• A 35.37% drop in physical assaults

• A 22.41% decline in thefts

These positive trends reflect the impact of the country’s security measures in fostering a safer environment for its citizens.
