US and El Salvador Supreme Court Collaborate to Combat Violence Against Women.

The United States government has partnered with El Salvador’s Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) to address violence against women in the region. Their collaboration led to the successful organization of the Second Regional Congress for the Prevention and Combat of Violence Against Women, which gathered over 190 professionals from Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Mexico, and Colombia.

This event aimed to strengthen efforts to prevent violence and ensure women’s rights are respected and protected, with a focus on building a future of equality for women. The congress featured experts from various fields, including judges, prosecutors, law enforcement officers, social workers, psychologists, and first responders. They discussed best practices, strategies, and training to enhance services and protection for women survivors of violence.

U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador William Duncan emphasized the importance of recognizing women’s role in society, stating that their participation in all sectors is essential to driving innovation, strengthening communities, and fostering economic growth.

El Salvador’s SCJ President, Henry Alexander Mejía, reiterated the significance of the event, calling it a critical opportunity to reflect on and act against violence, one of the greatest violations of human rights.

Cindy Dyer, the U.S. Ambassador on Special Mission to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, spoke about the urgent need for action, asserting that every case matters and should be reported and addressed.

The event, held in conjunction with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, was organized by the SCJ’s Criminal Chamber, in partnership with the U.S. State Department and the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) office. This joint effort reflects a shared commitment to ending violence against women and ensuring their protection across the region.
