The Government of President Nayib Bukele has awarded more than 9,000 scholarships to young Salvadorans, enabling them to pursue technical and university education. The scholarships were presented at a special event held on Tuesday at the National Gymnasium, where recipients learned about the academic offerings of eleven universities and technical training institutions.
These scholarships are part of Phase 6 of the Territorial Control Plan and aim to provide young people with greater access to higher education and technical training. During the event, President Bukele highlighted the significance of the initiative, noting that the scholarships are a key social component of his administration’s plan to improve educational opportunities.

«We will never return to the past,» President Bukele stated, applauding the efforts of Alejandro Gutman, president of the Directorate of Integration, which oversees the scholarship program.

Alejandro Gutman, along with Minister of Education José Mauricio Pineda, encouraged the young recipients to take full advantage of these educational opportunities. Gutman emphasized the importance of breaking the cycle of limited access to education, saying, «This is what seeks to create a very different social, cultural, and educational dynamism for Salvadorans.»

The scholarships are a part of a broader effort to democratize education, ensuring that young people across the country, including those from marginalized communities, have equal opportunities. The initiative is supported by agreements with various private universities and government-sponsored programs like the Roque Dalton Presidential Scholarships, which primarily benefit youth from local neighborhoods and communities.
