President Bukele Responds to Storm Damage: $300 Bonuses and 50,000 Food Packages Sent to Farmers and Families.

In response to the damage caused by Tropical Storm Sara, President Nayib Bukele announced on Sunday night the delivery of economic bonuses and food aid to assist farmers and families impacted by the storm’s rains.

The President revealed that a $300 bonus would be provided to farmers whose crops were damaged by the heavy rainfall. Approximately 1,000 farming families are expected to benefit from the initiative. In addition, 50,000 food packages will be distributed to the families most affected by the storm.

«Thank God, Tropical Storm Sara has had a minimal impact on our country. However, some small farmers have lost their crops, and their workers will also face the loss of workdays,» Bukele stated in a post on the social media platform X. «Therefore, I have ordered the delivery of $300 bonuses to approximately 1,000 farming families, along with the distribution of 50,000 food packages for the affected families in those areas. God bless our country.»

Although Tropical Storm Sara passed through Central America this weekend, it was less severe than initially predicted. While the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) had warned of potential widespread damage, the storm ultimately caused minimal impact in El Salvador.

In preparation for possible hazards, including flooding and landslides, the General Directorate of Civil Protection issued a stratified alert across the country. Areas were placed under green and yellow alerts based on the risk of severe weather.

As of Sunday, Tropical Storm Sara was downgraded to a Tropical Depression, and its intensity is expected to decrease in the coming days. However, MARN continues to monitor the situation to ensure timely responses to any further rainfall or weather-related risks.
