In the wake of heavy rains caused by the indirect influence of Hurricane Rafael, communities in Costa Rica have warmly welcomed the humanitarian aid sent by El Salvador. President Nayib Bukele’s government swiftly mobilized aid to assist those affected by the severe weather, sending a team of over 300 emergency responders to support the hardest-hit areas.
The Salvadoran team arrived in Santa Cruz, a town in the Guanacaste region, which has been severely impacted by the storms. Costa Rican authorities have declared a Red Alert in the area as flooding and landslides continue to threaten local communities. The team, which arrived late yesterday, consists of rescuers, medical personnel, police, and members of the Armed Forces, all ready to provide immediate assistance.
President Bukele confirmed that El Salvador has also sent 400 tons of food and emergency supplies, including essential items for displaced families. The aid shipment began arriving in Costa Rica early yesterday morning, with distribution efforts already underway in the most affected regions.
Costa Rican authorities and local residents have expressed their gratitude for the swift and generous response from El Salvador, highlighting the strong regional solidarity in times of crisis. The Salvadoran government continues to monitor the situation and is committed to providing ongoing support as the recovery process unfolds.
President Bukele has reiterated El Salvador’s commitment to international cooperation and humanitarian aid, emphasizing the importance of helping neighbors in need, regardless of political or national boundaries.
